"History of" cats[edit]

I removed a number of these articles from Category:History of video games as the category was not a defining trait. I don't know whether there's precedent to start a more appropriate Category:Early history of video games, as that too is a vague qualifier, but these individual games certainly aren't traits of history, as A Trip to the Moon is not a trait of film history. czar 20:23, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I think categories such as Category:1960s video games are perfect for searchability. I agree that no specific video game should be in the "History of video games" category. I think an argument could exist for computers, such as Cathode-ray tube amusement device and Nimrod, to be located in the "Early history of video games" category, but specific games such as Bertie the Brain and OXO shouldn't. ~Mable (chat) 10:33, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Eh, the CRTAD was a electronic game/device, not a computer in any form, and could only play one game because it was only that game. Nimrod was a computer, sure, but one custom built to run a single program (and, in fact, wouldn't be able to run any other programs), and Bertie was actually the exact same, it just got a "game" name instead of a "computer" name. If you exclude games from the Early History category then there's... not really anything there at all. And maybe that's fine? I think the category should either include all of the things in the template + maybe people involved, or else shouldn't exist. --PresN 15:36, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Could it exist with only the early history article, the early mainframes article and category, and people like Ralph Baer? I don't see a need for a category dedicated specifically to video games of the 1950s and 60s when we already have categories for those decades specifically, but I do see use in categorizing related articles. ~Mable (chat) 16:00, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
