Dies ist eine Zeitleiste der großen Hungersnöte auf dem indischen Subkontinent während der britischen Herrschaft von 1765 bis 1947. Die hier aufgeführten Hungersnöte ereigneten sich sowohl in den Fürstenstaaten (von indischen Herrschern verwaltete Regionen), Britisch-Indien (Regionen, die entweder von der British East India Company von 1765 bis 1857 oder von der britischen Krone im British Raj von 1858 bis 1947) und von der britischen Herrschaft unabhängige indische Gebiete wie das Maratha Empire .
Das Jahr 1765 wird als Startjahr gewählt, weil in diesem Jahr der British East India Company nach ihrem Sieg in der Schlacht von Buxar die Diwani (Rechte auf Landeinnahmen) in der Region Bengalen zugesprochen wurden (obwohl sie Bengalen nicht direkt verwalten würde) bis 1784, als ihm das Nizamat oder die Kontrolle über Recht und Ordnung gewährt wurde .) Opfer der Großen Hungersnot von 1876-1878 in Britisch-Indien , abgebildet im Jahr 1877. Die Hungersnot bedeckte schließlich eine Fläche von 670.000 Quadratkilometern (257.000 Quadratmeilen) und verursachte bei einer Bevölkerung von insgesamt 58.500.000 Bedrängnis.
