Pam Cook (* 6. Januar 1943) ist emeritierte Professorin für Film an der University of Southampton . Sie wurde an der Sir William Perkins School , Chertsey, Surrey und der Birmingham University ausgebildet , wo sie von Stuart Hall , Richard Hoggart , Malcolm Bradbury und David Lodge unterrichtet wurde . Zusammen mit Laura Mulvey und Claire Johnston war sie eine Pionierin der anglo-amerikanischen feministischen Filmtheorie der 1970er Jahre . Ihre Zusammenarbeit mit Claire Johnston über die Arbeit der Hollywood-Filmregisseurin Dorothy Arzner provozierte in den folgenden Jahrzehnten Diskussionen unter feministischen Filmwissenschaftlerinnen.
Mitte der 1980er Jahre war Cook Co-Autor und Herausgeber des führenden Lehrbuchs der Filmwissenschaft The Cinema Book für das British Film Institute (BFI). Von 1985 bis 1994 war sie Associate Editor und Mitarbeiterin der BFI-Magazine Monthly Film Bulletin und Sight and Sound , bevor sie als Dozentin an der University of East Anglia tätig wurde . 1998 wurde sie zur ersten Professorin für European Film and Media an der University of Southampton berufen .
Seit ihrer Pensionierung im Jahr 2006 veröffentlicht sie weiterhin Bücher und Artikel zur Bewegtbildgeschichte und -kultur. 2007 gründete sie den unabhängigen Kampagnenblog bfiwatch, um die Entwicklungen am BFI zu verfolgen, und hat ihre Arbeit auf die wissenschaftliche Videografie ausgeweitet.
